We work together to turn ideas into

a clear and complete project.

Get to Know Us

We are a collaborative project team that worked together from topic development and research planning to website presentation. The team leader handled overall planning and coordination, while members contributed based on their strengths in research, content organization, visual documentation, and website design. Through discussion and hands-on work, we presented our findings in a clear and structured way.

I’m the one who keeps this whole project moving! From brainstorming the initial 'Formosa's Voice' idea to making sure every part of the website fits together, I led the team to turn our messy thoughts into a story we’re proud to share with the world.

I’m the eyes of the team. I spent hours sorting through footage and editing our videos to make sure the 'vibe' of Taiwan’s streets

—and our mission—is captured perfectly for everyone to see.

Member Interview

Wanna know how we went from 'constant drama' to the 'ultimate dream team'?

Check out what our members have to say—it might just change your perspective!

(Haha... then you'll understand why being a leader is such a struggle! Trust me, I know.)

01

Luciana Lu

In this project, I served as the team leader and was the architect of the project’s core DNA, defining the initial concept and strategic direction. Beyond high-level planning, I acted as the technical cornerstone; I provided professional equipment and executed the cinematography to ensure our visuals met professional standards. I also served as the primary liaison, navigating complex communications during high-stakes interviews and external coordination. Leading this diverse team was an intensive masterclass in management. I had to harmonize a group where motivation levels and working styles varied significantly—a challenge that required constant vigilance. I became the strategic bridge between our ambitious goals and the reality of our output. I mastered the art of 'assertive empathy'—learning how to issue directives and maintain progress tracking without compromising team harmony. When momentum lagged, I was the one providing the spark. By meticulously orchestrating every moving part, I didn’t just witness our progress; I actively drove it, transforming scattered ideas into a sophisticated, impactful reality.

In our group, my main role is translating our texts from Chinese into English and assisting in video editing and filming. Through closely observing the volunteers, I realized just how many people are willing to give back to society, and came to reflect on my own efforts in everyday life. Moreover, as I watched all my teammates working tirelessly during this project, I felt an even stronger need to contribute to the team, which has since motivated me in other tasks I was given. By participating in this project, I became more aware of Taiwan's culture and better at reaching out to other people through online networks. However, I also feel like I should be more efficient when doing my part and also participate more actively in our group discussions to help our team get the best results.

Leo Chan

Within this thematic project, I served as the director, primarily responsible for video editing, photographing as well as filming. By capturing key details and genuine emotions, I developed both technical skills and a deeper acknowledgement for the ordinary heroes. Despite challenges and time constraints, I remained committed to completing the films, and admired presenting inspiring stories that were hidden behind the black curtain.

In this project, I mainly focus on the website content writing (recycling station introduction, SDGs connections), data collection, and part of the translation. When writing about the connection between the SDGs and the topic, I felt a deep admiration for the Taiwanese people’s spontaneous spirit of volunteerism. I was also struck by how an unremarkable recycling station can bring together warm-hearted people in Taiwan through regular waste disposal and sorting. This experience gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation of the strong, unbreakable sense of cultural unity and shared values within Taiwanese society. At the same time, through this project, I came to realize the importance of communication and collaboration within a team, such as how to distribute each teammate’s tasks based on their strengths and how to monitor progress together. After a few months of exploration, I also became aware that I need to be more active in expressing my ideas and suggestions in order to make team communication smoother and more effective.

In the context of the project, I have been responsible for gathering information about the volunteers as well as some translations, for example, about the activities of the volunteers, as well as the effects involving the whole community. When organizing data regarding the volunteers, I have learned many new pieces of knowledge, such as the significant roles that the volunteers play during the process of disaster relief activities as well as preserving the community's environment. At the same time, through the process, I have learned how to allocate tasks together with the members within our group. After organizing for a few months, I have found that all members need to develop their own ideas first, which makes our project more creative as well as "interesting."

Claire Hsu

In this project, I was responsible for summarizing the interviews from PTS, writing website content (such as the Matai'an barrier lake section), and assisting with some translations. While organizing the interview records for PTS's Our Island and writing the introduction to the Matai'an incident, I gained much invaluable knowledge, such as the causes of barrier lakes and the strong volunteer spirit common among Taiwanese people. During this process, I also learned how to collaborate with others and coordinate schedules with team members. After several months of research, I feel that I need to learn how to better accept others' opinions to integrate our team's progress and make our teamwork more efficient.

We don’t just record history; we participate in it.
